Book Launch: ‘Viva Bartali!’ by Damian Walford Davies

Join us at The Bike Lock cafe for the launch of poet Damian Walford Davies’ new collection Viva Bartali! As well as reading from the book, Damian will take part in a Q&A.

Viva Bartali! is a biography-in-verse of the iconic Italian cyclist, and two-time Tour de France winner, Gino Bartali (1914-2000). Conjuring the joys and tragedies, victories and defeats that characterised his career and personal life, this isn’t merely an imaginative profile of an élite athlete. Bartali is also seen as a fond and bereaved father, a devout Catholic, and a resistance courier whose remarkable secret missions in the saddle helped save the lives of hundreds of Italian Jews during World War Two.

Entry is free and all are welcome but please register here to let us know you’ll be attending. Doors open 6:30pm for 7pm start.

Refreshments, including drinks and light snacks, will be available to purchase from The Bike Lock menu.

Copies of the book will be available on the night from Seren.

The Bike Lock has lock up facilities for up to 50 bikes on site. We’ll offer a £2 discount on one copy of Viva Bartali! to anyone who cycles to the event!
